First
Half - The Fire made a stroming start. With just a couple of minutes
gone Lee Knott continued his recent good form by smashing the ball
over the keeper to give the Fire the lead. The Fire quickly doubled
the advantage with Luke Fleming cutting in from the left to hit a
rasping shot past the keeper from 25 yards. The Fire failed to capatilise
on the good start and High Grove came into the game. After Grove had
hit the post they soon pulled one back. A freekick on the edge of
the area went through the wall and despite Chris Dean making a save
the loose ball was prodded home. High Grove were well on top at this
point and soon equalised. A cross from the Fire left evaded Robert
Green and was volleyed home. With Grove causing lots of problems with
diagonal balls they took the lead before half time when their two
strikers combined to create an opening and that was good enough to
give Grove the half time lead.

Second
Half - The Fire didn't look threatening as the Grove continued to
dominate. The introduction of Mike Bridge from the substitutes bench
however sparked Fire into life. However despite looking a better
side Fire conceded a 4th. The game looked over but Fire stepped
up a gear and soon pulled back a goal. Lee Knott was unlucky to
see his shot hit the bar but Mike Thiele followed up well to score
from the rebound. The Fire pressed continually and had a few half
chances. They came agonisingly close to levelling when James Donnan
saw his header cleared of the line but it wasn't to be and the Fire's
season fizzled out.
