High Grove 2 Northwest Fire 4

First Half - In the last league game of the season the Fire had their last chance to salvage some pride and they did with a battling performance. With no referee turning up it was left to the Fire's Robbie Reckless to take the whistle but the home team could have no complaints of bias.
The Fire had taken the lead in fortunate circumstances when a shot from Lee Knott somehow found its way past the Grove keeper. It wassn't long though before the referee had an influence on the game awarding a very dubious penalty to High Grove to level the scores. The Fire went back in front when good work from skipper Dave Barnes set up Lee Knott to blast home off the underside of the bar. High Grove equalised after a scramble from a corner was prodded home.

Leebo scored a hat-trick to secure the win.

Second Half - The Fire kept up their workrate in the second half and although the game was fairly even the Fire created the better chances. Lee Knott was unlucky to hit the bar and also had an effort ruled out for offside and Mike Thiele missed 2 sitters. The next goal looked like it would be crucial and it was The Fire who deservedly got it. A strong run down form the right from Mike Bridge with ten minutes to go ended with him thumping a shot against the bar, this time there was no lucky let-off for the home side with Luke Fleming on hand to smash home the rebound. The Fire ensured there was no nervous finale with Lee Knott scoring their 4th and his hat-trick.

Luke Fleming scored the Fire's crucial 3rd.
