Northwest Fire 1 High Grove 2
First Half - The Fire were able to put out a full strength team for the first time this season and they finally put in a performance that deserved to earn them points. A midfield foursome, the equal of any side in the division say The Fire playing some excellent football in front of the TV cameras, filming for Granada's Soccernight. High Grove were restricted to sporadic long range shots and indeed it was the Fire who created the best openings and were unlucky not to score.

Mike Bridge made a welcome return in the Fire midfield

Second Half - High Grove stepped up a gear in the second half and put together some lovely passing movements. Fire's defence held firm though and for a long while a 0-0 looked on the cards. Fire created 2 great chances though with the Grove keeper making a great double save from Lee Knott and later saving well from Mike Thiele. Mike Bridge though came closer than anyone with a shot that hit the bar. It was Grove however that took the lead. The Fire struggled to clear a cross and the ball was eventually rifled home from 12 yards. The Fire came straight back and after some excellent pressure a curling shot from Dave Barnes was headed home by The Fire's leading Marksman Lee Knott. Joy sooned turned to heartbreak though as just a couple of minutes later The Fire failed to clear a corner and the ball was forced over the line. The Fire pressed to the end but couldn't find a way through.
A fine header from Lee Knott levelled the scores.
