After a few shocking performances of late the Fire restored some pride with a determined performance against Westlands.

Recent injuries and other abasences meant that The Fire were forced to play the whole match with just 10 players. If that wasn't going to make it hard enough they had no recognised keeper and it was Rob Clowes who became the 4th Northwest Fire player this season to go in goal.

From the start it was always going to be a backs to the wall type performance and some good defending saw Westlands only able to create 1 really clear cut opportunity althought they peppered a few shots from distance wide.

At the other end Lee Knott had the thankless task of playing up front on his own and without any recognised central midfielders playing behind him he only had scraps to feed on and he was unable to trouble the Westlands defence.

The second half saw The Fire continue to frustrate their hosts. With Westlands pressing Fire had a couple of opportunities themselves but poor final balls stopped them from creating real clear cut opportunities.

Eventually the Westlands pressure paid off and they took the lead from a volley on the edge of the area after a corner. It was cruel on The Fire but they continued to battle.

A few minutes later Westlands had the chance to sew up the game as they were awarded a penalty but the kick flew wide and the Fire still had a slender chance.

The Fire pushed up a little more and Lee Knott tested the keeper with a long range effort but nothing was falling right for The Fire and a few minutes from the end Westlands scored their second direct from a free kick.
