D&C 2 Northwest Fire 10
Half Time 2-5
Scorers: Knott 4 (1 pen), Brooks(4), Fleming, Jones (pen)

Two seasons ago Northwest Fire played their first match in the ECSFL and were well and truly humbled losing 10-2. This season the Fire were once again involved in a 10-2 scoreline but this time it was the Fire who started the season in fine style.

The Fire had struggled in pre-season after only taking on opponents from a higher division. After the alarming slump at the end of last season, including a 3-0 loss to today's opponents, it wasn't a confident Fire side who took to the pitch.

Out battled over recent matches the Fire stood up today and matched their opponents physical nature, winning the battle before going on to win the match.

The first half saw both teams looking to start well and it was the Fire who got off to the better start. After some decent pressure a corner from Lee Knott was headed home by Joe Brooks and the scoring had begun.

Lee Knott soon doubled the advantage although the keeper would have been disappointed to concede what wasn't a powerfully struck shot.

D&C did reduce the arrears when the Fire failed to clear the danger and a well placed shot from just inside the box made it 2-1. The Fire quickly regained the 2 goal advantage and although D&C again pulled one back the Fire were able to score 2 more to lead 5-2 at the break.

The Fire set out in the second half determined not to let their opponents back into the game. With the match getting scrappy Paul Murgatroyd seemed to be getting on the recieving end with one challenge leaving him bleeding from the mouth. A further tackle saw him hobble from the pitch to be replaced by Luke Fleming.

Joe Brooks added a touch of class to proceedings

Luke would have no doubt felt himself unfortunate not to be in the starting XI and he soon announced his return with a low shot to make it 6-2.

With the Fire defence looking comfortable it was just a matter of how many the Fire could score and further goals from Brooks, Knott and Matt Jones sealed the Fire's biggest ever win.

Starting Line Up: Clowes, Lukoschek, Bush, Barnes, Green, Eastwood, Brooks, Dolan, Murgatroyd (Fleming), Knott, Jones. Sub not used Matt Gow
