League Match 1

The Fire came out of the blocks quickly and set about Westlands with great determination harrassing their opponents into mistakes. A goal after two minutes from Shaun Lloyd-Griffiths put the Fire in control and after going close several times, most notably from John Hopkinson who hit the post, a 2nd from Shaun on the half hour was to open the floodgates. Two further goals in the half from Joe Shambare and Lee Knott gave the Fire a deserved 4-0 half time lead with Josh Jennings, in goal for the Fire, producing an excellent save at 3-0 to deny the visitors a lifeline.
Half Time 4-0
A 5th goal 2 minutes into the second half looked to have dashed any hopes Westlands had of getting back into the match but they never gave up and got a goal back through a dubious penalty. Dave Carrington was ruled to have handled although it seemed more of a case of the ball hitting him from close range on the shoulder with Dave unable to get out of the way. Westlands continued to try to take the game to the Fire but with the defence playing well Josh Jennings had little to do in net and it was the Fire who looked more likely to score. A long range effort from Brian Mullen hit the bar and despite the fact the Fire were unable to force the rebound home the visitors had a player sent off for protesting too vocally about an offside. The Fire pressed home their numerical advantage with 3 more goals in the last 12 minutes to round off an emphatic win.
Full Time 8-1
