| The Fire were forced to ring the changes with James Gifford and Shaun Lloyd-Griffiths both away and with Gareth Hughes out injured new signing Robert Nolan was between the sticks for the Fire. Westlands had done the double over the Fire last season on their way to finshing in 3rd place, one place above the Fire, but had been beaten 6-0 by the Fire in a pre-season friendly so both teams had reason to be confident. The game developed into a scrappy affair with little in the way of good football being played although the Fire did produce a good passing move to go in front with Mark Allen releasing Mike Bridge who cut in before finsihing from a a narrow angle. Westlands equalised shortly before half time as they broke quickly from a Fire corner and a long ball was headed past the on rushing Rob Nolan to square the game. |

The 2nd half saw the Fire create a few openings but some tame finishing ruined their chance of taking the three points and the matched finished in a 1-1 draw. |
