| The Fire had endured a frustrating match last week when crashing out of the Stockport Trophy but put things right as they finally chalked up their first league win of the season in some style. The Fire looked 'up for it' from the start and scored an early goal with Warren Smith chasing down a seemingly lost cause and dispossing the Torpedo defender who was trying to shepherd the ball over the goal line. Warren's cross was helped on towards Jake Davies who coolly slotted home from near the penalty spot. Despite the Fire being on top Torpedo drew level when a corner wasn't cleared properly and fell kindly to a Torpedo player who stabbed home the loose ball from inside the 6 yard box. The Fire though continued to look the more threatening and retook the lead when Lee Milner curled home a free kick from 30 yards. |
Half
Time 2-1 |
Torpedo
started the second half brightly and heaped pressure on the Fire defence
helped out by a few generously awarded free kicks. The sustained pressure
looked to have paid off when a Torpedo player was fouled in the box but
thankfully the resulting penalty kick was weakly struck and Robert Nolan
made a comfortable save. It proved to be a big turning point as the Fire
quickly put the game to bed with long range strikes from Stuart Waterfield
and Warren Smith. |
